With a 78%/22% male-to-female ratio, the question that comes to mind is why are so many owners male? There is a wide range of Android-powered smartphones for people to choose from, including everything from sleek-and-shiny HTC devices to keyboard-ready Droids from Motorola and Verizon. In other words, there's an Android handset out there for everyone.

According to the FCC, about 93 million Americans don't use fast, broadband Internet, citing cost and complexity as a factor in their refusal to enter the 20th century. The study, below, found that 80 million adults and 13 million children either still use dial-up or don't use the Internet at all at home, suggesting that either the survey methodology might be flawed or we're in serious trouble

1. Facebook's Global Position
By the end of the year Facebook will be the principal social network in all but 25 countries across the globe. However, there will be significant gaps in its coverage that will be based on language issues, particularly in countries like Brazil, Russia, India, China and Japan.
In September 2009, Facebook had 300 million members with a predicted membership of 600 million by the end this year — including inactive accounts and multiple account users — based on growth patterns in 2009.
The result is that marketing and customer relationship management will have to change from working across a number of social networking sites to three or four sites that will cover the main languages.

"Up until now, the various lawsuits filed against the LHC have faltered. But if the right kind of claim is filed in the proper court, a judge may soon have to face the question of whether an injunction might be needed to save the world." Not even a joke!!

If you see a student dozing in the library or a co-worker catching 40 winks in her cubicle, don't roll your eyes. New research from the University of California, Berkeley, shows that an hour's nap can dramatically boost and restore your brain power. Indeed, the findings suggest that a biphasic sleep schedule not only refreshes the mind, but can make you smarter.

Imagine…
-If we stopped automating social media
-If we only shared things we actually liked
-If we looked at social media like a tool
-If we learned how to disagree
-If we paid more attention to the local tie-in -
At first there were brands, next came search, algorithms, human links… And then algorithmic authority and predictive creation? Not sure I fully understand and even less agree with the 2 latest points, but very interesting analysis anyway.

Despite the increasing integration of Online Social Networks (OSNs) activity into everyday life, however, there has been no research on the most fundamental question about OSN profiles: Do they convey accurate impressions of profile owners?
A widely held assumption, supported by content analyses, suggests that OSN profiles are used to create and communicate idealized selves (Manago, Graham, Greenfield, & Salimkhan, 2008). According to this idealized virtual-identity hypothesis, profile owners display idealized characteristics that do not reflect their actual personalities. Thus, personality impressions based on OSN profiles should reflect profile owners’ ideal-self views rather than what the owners are actually like.
A contrasting view holds that OSNs may constitute an extended social context in which to express one’s actual personality characteristics, thus fostering accurate interpersonal perceptions.
Which is true? A brilliant study by the University of Mainz.

Here are 5 steps for intranet 2.0 change management planning:
1- Intranet governance model (if you don’t have an explicit, documented governance model for the overall intranet, you’re going nowhere fast).
2- Social media policy (who can do what, when, how, and the rules for doing so).
3- Executive sponsorship (ensure you have a senior executive in your corner to help promote your new tools).
4- Communications plan (promote these tools by email, newsletter, the intranet home page, and buzz marketing activities).
5- Active conversations (lead and promote the conversation with topical posts (e.g. new blog post or wiki) that are well targeted and promoted to potential subject matter experts and keeners).

For the most part, it is a moot point: employees don’t want to blog. There are always keeners and exceptions to the rule, but employees have no interest in blogging. Even at IBM, one of the most technology and social media savvy employee populations on the planet, with more than 350,000 employees, there exists about 15,000 employee blogs (less than 5% of the population).
