There is a whole generation of people who need to change how they communicate with the world. Just this week, Michelin hired TBWA to create a Facebook campaign around their slogan "The right rite changes everything," in an attempt to rebrand the Michelin Man.
Companies like Michelin just don't get it. That kind of thinking will get you nowhere on the social web. The world doesn't work that way anymore. We don't want to connect with a slogan. We don't follow a logo. We don't care about your message.
Traditional marketing is not compatible with the social world. The social web is not just a different format; it is a completely different form of communication. (…)

Human poaching drives rise in tusk-free genes of elephants
January 5th, 2007 · 1 CommentMore male Asian elephants will be born without tusks because poaching of tusked elephants is reducing the gene pool, Chinese researchers say.
Their study, conducted in the southwest province of Yunnan where two-thirds of China’s Asian elephants live, found the tuskless phenomenon is spreading, according to a report in the China Daily.
The tusk-free gene, which is found in between 2 and 5% percent of male Asian elephants, has increased to between 5 and 10% in elephants in China, says zoology researcher Associate Professor Zhang Li, from Beijing Normal University.

The JREF organization offers a prize of one million U.S. dollars which it claims it will pay out to anyone who can demonstrate a supernatural or paranormal ability under agreed-upon scientific testing criteria. The JREF also maintains a legal defense fund to assist persons who are attacked as a result of their investigations and criticism of people who make paranormal claims.
-
At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the "applicant" becomes a "claimant."
To date, no one has passed the preliminary tests.
